How To Fit A Tow Bar To The Ford Transit Custom
Fitting a tow bar to a Ford Transit Custom is really straight forward. It is just a case of attaching two support arms and a cross beam before tightening the sixteen bolts that hold it all together, as can be seen in the picture from the fitting instrutions for the Tow Trust Detachable tow bar shown below.
Types Of Tow Bar For The Ford Transit Custom
The Transit Custom is one of those rare vans that crosses from Light Commercial Vehicle to a car in the way that it is used. Unusually for a van then, there are two types of tow bar offered for the Transit Custom. The fixed flange tow bar: This provides the opportunity to fit any type of bolt on tow ball and change the height position of the tow ball, particularly useful if towing many different types of trailers. The other option is the detachable tow bar: This actually means the tow ball can be quickly and easily removed. When the tow ball is not attached it would be hard to tell if the van has a tow bar fitted at all. This type of tow bar is really useful for those people who only tow very occassionally and want better aesthetics or removal of the trip hazard a fitted tow ball creates.
MSRT & GT LINE Transit Customs
If your van is the Motor Sport variant or has sports body kit fitted then the only tow bar option would be the Tow Trust Detachable Tow Bar.
